About Us

Directors: Univ. Prof. Dr. Johannes Grillari, Prim. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Thomas Hausner

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop and advance diagnostic, therapeutic and regenerative research strategies to enable the full and sustained recovery of trauma patients.

To achieve this goal, our interdisciplinary scientific strategy merges basic biomedical, translational and clinical research. In addition, we integrate innovative precision medicine solutions into clinical practice.

History

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology was founded in 1980 by the Austrian Workers' Compensation Board / Austrian Social Insurance for Occupational Risks (AUVA) and the Ludwig Boltzmann Society (Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft, LBG). Since 1998 it receives additional support from the Trauma Care Consult. The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology is co-founder and coordinator of the Austrian Cluster for Tissue Regeneration since 2006. In 2021, the cooperation agreement with AUVA was renewed and the institute was renamed to "Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Traumatology, the Research Center in Cooperation with AUVA."

The Research Center is located in the Lorenz Böhler Trauma Center in Vienna, Austria. In 2003, a satellite laboratory was established in Linz, Upper Austria, dedicated to human adult stem cell research in conjunction with the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service of Upper Austria.
