Alexander Petter-Puchner

Alexander is a specialist in general and visceral surgery and Clinical Advisor to the haemostasis and soft tissue regeneration research group at LBI Trauma.

Alexander’s professional career began with a position at Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland, followed by rotations at Gersthof Orthopaedic Hospital, Meidling University Hospital and Wilhelminenspital. Alexander completed his specialist training at the Department of General, Tumour and Visceral Surgery at Wilhelminenspital. In 2005, he took over the management of the internationally recognised research group for the treatment of abdominal wall and inguinal hernias in the research laboratory of the General Accident Insurance Institution (AUVA), under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Heinz Redl. In the further course of his career, various positions followed, including ward manager of the Department of General, Tumour and Visceral Surgery at the Ottakring Clinic and senior physician at the Department of General and Thoracic Surgery at Krems University Hospital. In 2023, Alexander opened a surgical practice at the St. Pölten Primary Care Centre.

In addition to his clinical work, Alexander is intensively involved in science. Through his involvement in over 80 publications, he has made a significant contribution to research into the treatment of abdominal wall and inguinal hernias as well as tissue adhesion. His expertise is reflected, among other things, in the filing of a US patent. Alexander is also active as a speaker and consultant for various academic institutions and institutes in the industry and in research.
