Wiggers-Bernard Conference 2026: Advancing quality in sepsis research
The 12th Wiggers-Bernard (W-B) Conference 2026 brought together more than 30 leading experts from across four continents in Vienna to revise and advance the MQTiPSS guidelines – the international benchmark for quality in preclinical sepsis research.
Since the first consensus in 2018, the field has moved fast: from omics and humanized models to microphysiological systems and AI. The conference provided a unique platform to integrate these developments and reassess what “good research” should look like today.
Beyond scientific excellence, the meeting stood out for its collaborative spirit. Participants actively engaged in critical discussions, aligning diverse perspectives and working collectively toward a shared goal: strengthening quality and reproducibility in sepsis research. The W-B Conference fostered an environment where robust debate and mutual exchange laid the foundation for an improved and forward-looking consensus.
A special thank you goes to Marcin Osuchowski, Sergiu Dumitrescu, and Conny Schneider for organizing this important event and bringing the international community together. We are proud that LBI Trauma could host this research-shaping conference in Vienna. We also extend our sincere thanks to Beata Jabłońska for her artistic contribution to the event, where she created a unique piece signed by all Wiggers-Bernard participants.
