Patrick Heimel in the Finals of the ViCEM Awards – Register Now and Experience It Live!
On May 22, 2025, the TU Wien will host the final round of the ViCEM Best Thesis Awards. Exceptional scientific talents will present their research live, including Patrick Heimel, who is competing as a finalist for the PhD thesis award.
Patrick Heimel is Co-Head of our Core Facility HABIT (Histology and BioImaging in Traumatology). In his dissertation, he developed a novel imaging technique for nervous tissue, which enables high-resolution visualisation of the spinal cord and spinal cord injuries using contrast-enhanced micro-CT. This method provides unprecedented three-dimensional insights into the central nervous system in a non-destructive manner: A significant advancement for preclinical trauma research. Patrick has been part of the institute for over a decade and supported a wide range of studies using µCT: from bone density measurements and fracture healing to peripheral nerve regeneration, implant research, dentistry, and even solving ancient mysteries in archaeological samples.
