LBI Trauma at the Long Night of Research

The Long Night of Research took place on May 20th and was a complete success. For hours, LBI Trauma’s exhibition booth, part of MedUni Vienna’s medical research mile, entertained science-enthusiasts of all ages.

Under the motto „Achtung, Unfall! Forschen um zu heilen.“ (“Watch out for accidents! Research to heal.”) our scientists conveyed enthusiasm for their research. Join-in activities invited people to linger. Visitors could try their surgical skills at fixing bone fractures, compete against each other in a game of battleship (cell culture style) and guess histological sections under the microscope. As always, a highlight was electrospinning, which was demonstrated in the form of sweet cotton candy. Popcorn was also distributed and created an authentic movie theater feeling during the live broadcast of a brain surgery taking place next door.

We say THANK YOU to MedUni Vienna for being great hosts, to all helpers for their great commitment and of course to all the guests who discussed, marveled and played with us.

a. What does cotton candy have to do with tissue engineering? Visit us at the next science event to find out. 😉
