Hands-on science for 13,800 visitors: LBI Trauma at the Lange Nacht der Forschung

At this year’s Lange Nacht der Forschung (“Long Night of Research”), LBI Trauma once again joined the bustling Medizinische Forschungsmeile hosted by the Medical University of Vienna. Positioned right next to the main lecture hall, our booth attracted a steady stream of visitors throughout the evening and contributed to the event’s impressive total of 13,800 attendees.

The neighboring stage featured major highlights, including a talk by Thomas Brezina and a live-streamed kidney transplantation. Meanwhile, visitors at the LBI Trauma booth engaged directly with science: they solved bone puzzles, explored vivid microscopy images, and listened to compelling stories of sepsis survival. Our researchers also showcased how nature inspires innovation: from healing vibrations to silk-based biomaterials.

A particular highlight for younger guests was the mock CT scanner, where they could image samples themselves and get a hands-on glimpse into the world of medical research.

This successful evening was made possible by the dedication of our team, who spent their Friday night sharing their passion with thousands of curious minds. Our sincere thanks go to all contributors: Sofia Danilchenko, Patrick Heimel, Mikolaj Ogrodnik, Katharina Sweis, Elisa Seiser, Ortrun Neuper, Marlies Weiss, Polijana Mesec, Melika Torabian, Barbara Schädl, Tamara Jagersberger, Afrooz Ghasemzadeh, Carina Kampleitner, Anna Reisinger, and Conny Schneider.

We also extend our gratitude to MedUni Vienna for hosting the event and to Robert Harson for capturing the evening in photographs.
