Exploring the Power of AI in PhD Research
LBI Trauma scientists had the opportunity to attend an insightful lecture and workshop by Isabel Dregely, Head Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics at Technikum Wien Academy.
Isabel gave us a comprehensive look at AI – from the legal aspects to a deep dive into how technologies like deep learning and LLMs actually function. She also introduced us to a range of AI tools that can streamline our research processes. A key takeaway? AI isn’t here to replace us, but to replace repetitive tasks, giving us more time for meaningful work.
We also explored how to safely use AI with sensitive data and explored workarounds to get the most out of AI while keeping our data protected. There was a lot of engagement and open discussion, as the team shared questions, concerns, and experiences around AI in research.
Additionally, we covered some of AI’s limitations, like hallucinations, and how to navigate these challenges to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Big thanks to Isabel for her thoughtful answers and for giving us new ways to think about AI in research!
