Double recognition: Magdalena Metzger and Vanessa Geyik impress with dermatological research in Heidelberg
Good research shows its quality by staying close to real people and their needs. Magdalena Metzger and Vanessa Geyik have done exactly that, and were awarded two prizes for it.
The two early-career researchers from the SHIELD group at LBI Trauma were recognised for their innovative research at the 18th Annual Meeting of the Working Group for Occupational and Environmental Dermatology in Heidelberg.
Dr. Magdalena Metzger presented a unique case study: a patient suffering from a chronic scalp wound following skin cancer treatment was treated with pulsed red light to support healing. Remarkably, with the help of this light therapy, a wound that had persisted for several years healed within just three months.
Vanessa Geyik, MSc, impressed the jury with results from a laboratory project investigating the effectiveness of skin protection products. Using a Franz diffusion cell, the study tested how well two commercially available creams could prevent the penetration of irritant chemicals from metalworking fluids into the skin. The foundation for this research was laid by Anna Szorger as part of her master’s thesis.
Congratulations!
