Marcin Osuchowski

Research Profile: I joined the LBI Intensive Care team in October 2007 following my post-doc training in the lab of Dr. Dan Remick in Boston, MA and PhD under Dr. Raghubir Sharma in Athens, GA, USA. My professional interests lie in research addressing pathophysiological mechanisms and prevention of early and late mortality in sepsis and trauma/hemorrhage. See Sepsis Research for more details.
Personal Perspective: A wholesome research training often requires plenty of spausal sacrifice (hail to my dear wife!), mental flexibility and logistic endurance: after leaving our native Poland in 1999, my family survived eight minor and five major relocation operations (including two over-seas). Yet, criss-crossing cities, lands and continents is unbelivably enriching and uplifitng, both on the professional as well as personal level. The scientific work itself is time-consuming, mind-boggling and occasionaly very frustrating (e.g. when our papers and/or grants require yet another re-write). Yet, it is simultaneously amazingly eye-opening, refreshingly free-spirited and frequently inspiring - especially with the LBI team like ours! I would not change it for anything else (well, maybe with an exception of a pro surfer position...) !
