Congratulations to Johannes Hackethal, who just finished his doctoral thesis with distinction at the University of Natural Resources and Life Science, Vienna!
Being trained as a biomedical engineer, his prime research field is human material-based tissue engineering by using human waste tissues (placenta, liposuction fat). During his doctoral thesis, Johannes has established new effective methods to isolate non-cellular components from human placenta for research to replace animal material-based biomaterials, and for potential clinical applications such as wound healing or Duchenne muscular dystropy.
Currently, Johannes is working on human material-based vascularization strategies, to engineer larger scale human tissue.
