Competence Center for Mechanobiology

The Competence Center for Mechanobiology (Kompetenzzentrum MechanoBiologie) was founded by several institutes in Austria and Czech Republic and is funded from the European Regional Development Fund in the Interreg V-A Austria – Czech Republic programme (project number: ATCZ133). The goal is to combine interdisciplinary approaches from medicine and technology to investigate the influence of mechanical stimuli on tissue regeneration. In close collaboration with partner institutions, researchers from the LBI Trauma aim to identify key factors in mechanotransduction in response to extracorporeal shockwave therapy or fluid shear stress (e.g. blood flow) and to develop methods for image-based analysis of the regeneration process.

The partner institutions are:

Danube University Krems, Department of Health Sciences and Biomedicine (Lead Partner)
Vienna University of Technology, Institute for Applied Synthetic Chemistry
Acadamy of Sciences of the Czech Republic – Institute for Applied and Theoretical Mechanics
St. Anne’s University Hospital Brno, Center for Translational Medicine, International Clinical Research Center
University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Institute of Complex Systems
